Blog Post No. 6 Global environmental issues

Water pollution

Water pollution is the contamination of natural water bodies by chemical, physical and radioactive substances. The negative alteration of water quality presently produces large scale illness and deaths.

There are many causes and effects of this environmental issue. Sewage from domestic households, factories and commercial buildings are a big part of this problem. Sewage that is treated in water treatment plants is often disposed into the sea. Oil pollution caused by oil spills from tankers and oil from ship travel represent the most pollution in our coast. Oil does not dissolve in water and forms a thick sludge. The worst effect of this problem is the groundwater contamination from pesticides that causes reproductive damage within wildlife in ecosystems.

Some things we can do to fix this issue are very simple. Do not throw chemicals, oils, paints and medicines down the sink drain, or the toilet. Never throw rubbish away anyhow. Always look for the correct waste bin. Use water wisely. Do not keep the tap running when it’s not in use. If we all do this things, we can significantly prevent water lacks and reduce the amount of dirty water that needs treatment.

Water pollution is one of worst environmental issue. It is produce by us and we are the only people who can fix this.

Blog Post No. 4 and 5 - Health insurance in Chile

The health system in Chile is not good for everyone. This system only cares about the people who have the money to pay for it.

The care in public hospitals is completely lacking. People have to wait hours to be treated. When hospitals are overwhelmed which is most of the time, people are treated in the corridors. Sometimes even doctors at the hospital emergency. The working staff of these places treat people like animals. Attention in hospitals is certainly not good and it is getting worse.

Only if you have the money you will receive a quality health care. In clinics, you receive spectacular attention. You do not have to wait for anything to be seen. It is never crowded and the people who work there are very friendly and helpful. The differences between people who have Isapre or Fonasa are simply gigantic.

Why people who have no money can not receive the same treatment as people that have the resources?. The government must change the health system radically.
